The apprentice in pursuit of this role will repair damage to fibreglass, plastic and metal bodywork on vehicles, make and form vehicle panels using hand tools or machines.
Duties involve determining vehicle damage and recommended repair procedure, fixing dents, removing damaged panels, using hydraulic and mechanical equipment to straighten and realign chassis and body frames. Using oxy-acetylene and welding equipment to cut and join replacement sections or damaged panels. Apprentices also fill depressions with plastic fillers and file, grind and sand repaired surfaces using hand and power tools.
