Engineering Mechanical Trade (Maintenance – Diesel Fitting)
Apprentices are generally involved in the repair, servicing and maintenance of heavy earthmoving and agricultural machinery, stationary plant equipment, large marine engines and heavy lift vehicles. Apprentice will also perform duties on engines, axel assemblies, automatic transmissions, gear boxes, clutches, brakes, fuel pumps, cooling systems and electrical equipment related to this equipment.
The apprentice will use a range of hand tools, electrical and air power tools, hydraulic presses, tuning equipment, welding equipment, lathes (milling and other attachments, optional), cranes or gantries and other specialised equipment required to carry out their duties (ie: brake servicing equipment, ring compressors, pulling or bearing equipment, valve servicing equipment or various pressure testers etc.).
